Aurea Trindade
Aurea Trindade likes to say that art found her one hot afternoon in a small Brazilian town. Aurea was getting water from a well in her backyard, when an air bubble glided around her face and popped into the puddle of mud that had formed at the base of the cistern. Aurea started playing with the clay-like material, and intuitively created her first work: a man’s face. She considered the bubble experience a miracle and has never stopped sculpting.
In the last 35 years, Aurea has explored the use of different materials in her sculptures and other artistic media such as drawing, wood carving, and painting. Her works range from realistic to abstract and often incorporate the theme of ancestral faces.
Aurea currently explores art in her atelier in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Her recent work includes powerful bronze sculptures that depict pregnant and faceless feminine figures. Some of her rubbings and sculptures can be seen on the pages of this website. A full catalogue of her work can be provided upon request.
